Hanshi Koda Kunihide, a professor at the University of Tsukuba, says, “If you understand the requirements for a valid strike and its elements, you can naturally study the elements of sharpness and momentum”. What does it mean to be strong? If you can understand that, you will become stronger. Koda Kunihide, Hanshi 8th Dan Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1957. After graduating from Nagasaki Higashi High School, he went on to Tsukuba University, and after teaching at a high school in Nagasaki Prefecture, he became a teacher at his alma mater, Tsukuba University. He has won the third place in the All-Japan Kendo Championships, took the individual title in the World Kendo Championships, and the National Teachers’ Kendo Championships, among others. Currently, he is a professor of Physical Education at the University of Tsukuba, head of the Kendo Department, director of the All Japan Kendo Federation, and chairman of the Kendo Competitions and Referees Committee.
