After graduating from Tokai University Daiyon High School (now Tokai University Sapporo High School), he advanced to Tokai University, and upon graduation entered the Hokkaido Prefectural Police. His major achievements include: Champion at the All Japan Kendo Championship; four-time Team Champion and Individual Champion at the World Kendo Championships; Champion at the All Japan Prefectural Tournament; two-time Champion at the All Japan 7th Dan Championship (Kumamoto); and in the All Japan Invitational 8th Dan Championship, he claimed his first title on his debut at the 17th Tournament and went on to achieve an unprecedented fourth crown, including his current three consecutive victories. He currently serves as Counselor in the Personnel Department of the Hokkaido Police Headquarters and as Head Instructor of the Hokkaido University Kendo Club. He holds the rank of Kyōshi 8th Dan.
