Italy was very excited to host 2024’s World Kendo Championship. The green, white, and red bars were flown proudly everywhere, and the air was abuzz with excitement.
Baeli, the Italian men’s team captain, and Orizio, the women’s team captain told us: “We’ve been training hard ever since it was decided that Italy would host the 2024 WKC. We were happy that so many people came to support us.” Baeli and Orizio are not only the team captains, but are actually married to each other.
“The Italian team members are not professionals. We all have regular jobs, and practice Kendo in our spare time. So we get together for short team practices, and do Keiko in our hometowns or watch Kendo videos to learn” said Orizio.
